HamstringsBarbellIntermediate
Romanian Deadlift from Deficit
How to perform
- 01Begin standing while holding a bar at arm's length in front of you. You can stand on a raised platform to increase the range of motion.
- 02Begin by flexing the knees slightly, and then flex at the hip, moving your butt back as far as possible, lowering the torso as far as flexibility allows. The back should remain in absolute extension at all times, and the bar should remain in contact with the legs. If done properly, there should be heavy tension felt in the hamstrings.
- 03Reverse the motion to return to the starting position.
Form cues
- Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
- Lead with the elbows and finish by squeezing the target muscle.
- Set the bar path over mid-foot and keep it there.
- Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.
Common mistakes
- Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
- Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
- Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
