Snatch Deadlift

How to perform

  1. 01The snatch deadlift strengthens the first pull of the snatch. Begin with a wide snatch grip with the barbell placed on the platform. The feet should be directly under the hips, with the feet turned out. Squat down to the bar, keeping the back in absolute extension with the head facing forward.
  2. 02Initiate the movement by driving through the heels, raising the hips. The back angle should remain the same until the bar passes the knees.
  3. 03At that point, drive your hips through the bar as you lay back. Return the bar to the platform by reversing the motion.

Form cues

  • Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
  • Lead with the elbows and finish by squeezing the target muscle.
  • Set the bar path over mid-foot and keep it there.
  • Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
  • Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
  • Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
