Standing Lateral Stretch

How to perform

  1. 01Take a slightly wider than hip distance stance with your knees slightly bent.
  2. 02Place your right hand on your right hip to support the spine.
  3. 03Raise your left arm in a vertical line and place your left hand behind your head. Keep it there as you incline your torso to the right.
  4. 04Keep your weight evenly distributed between both legs (don't lean into your left hip). Switch sides.

Form cues

  • Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
  • Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
  • Bouncing into the stretch instead of holding it.
