Supine Two-Arm Overhead Throw

How to perform

  1. 01Lay on the ground on your back with your knees bent.
  2. 02Hold the ball with both hands, extending the arms fully behind your head. This will be your starting position.
  3. 03Initiate the movement at the shoulder, throwing the ball directly forward of you as you sit up, attempting to go for maximum distance.
  4. 04The ball can be thrown to a partner or bounced off of a wall.

Form cues

  • Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
  • Lead with the elbows and finish by squeezing the target muscle.
  • Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
  • Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
  • Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
