Suspended Split Squat

How to perform

  1. 01Suspend your straps so the handles are 18-30 inches from the floor.
  2. 02Facing away from the setup, place your rear foot into the handle behind you. Keep your head looking forward and your chest up, with your knee slightly bent. This will be your starting position.
  3. 03Descend by flexing the knee and hips, lowering yourself to the ground. Keep your weight on the heel of your foot and maintain your posture throughout the exercise.
  4. 04At the bottom of the movement, reverse the motion, extending through the hip and knee to return to the starting position.

Form cues

  • Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
  • Drive through the full range — do not cut the lockout short.
  • Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
  • Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
  • Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
