Cable Shoulder Press

How to perform

  1. 01Move the cables to the bottom of the towers and select an appropriate weight.
  2. 02Stand directly in between the uprights. Grasp the cables and hold them at shoulder height, palms facing forward. This will be your starting position.
  3. 03Keeping your head and chest up, extend through the elbow to press the handles directly over head.
  4. 04After pausing at the top, return to the starting position and repeat.

Form cues

  • Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
  • Drive through the full range — do not cut the lockout short.
  • Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.

Common mistakes

  • Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
  • Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
  • Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
