Catch and Overhead Throw
How to perform
- 01Begin standing while facing a wall or a partner.
- 02Using both hands, position the ball behind your head, stretching as much as possible, and forcefully throw the ball forward.
- 03Ensure that you follow your throw through, being prepared to receive your rebound from your throw. If you are throwing against the wall, make sure that you stand close enough to the wall to receive the rebound, and aim a little higher than you would with a partner.
Form cues
- Brace your core before the first rep and keep it braced.
- Drive through the full range — do not cut the lockout short.
- Control the lowering phase — that is where most of the growth stimulus lives.
Common mistakes
- Using momentum instead of the target muscle.
- Cutting the range of motion short to add load.
- Adding weight before the movement pattern is clean.
